| | A quick note before we get into it: this issue wasn't quite ready yesterday. It's fresh and ready for you now. | Summer in the desert…the mornings are already getting hot, which leaves you two options. Wake up early and get out of the house before 10am, or accept that you're inside all day. | | A quiet 78 degree morning walk with Nova + Lola at 5am this morning (: |
| With summer break here, getting out the door early matters more than ever. (And if you saw the Fritz Burns pool hours making the rounds, you know the midday closure has people talking. But, that’s not stopping people from showing up.) | The desert in June is undefeated. | | I took Orion to the new Fritz Burns Park in La Quinta. Made it to the ribbon cutting, great people, and the park itself is a win. What I like is that it actually thought of everyone. There's a playground built for the two and a half to five crowd, and separate areas for the five to twelve kids. Orion loved it. Plenty of shade too, which matters out here. | Get there around seven or eight and you're good. Push it to eight or nine and it starts to get tough, but that's the desert in June. | As we know, you adjust for a couple months. | Anyway, onto the issue. |
|
| | Desert Notes | Two Indio stops worth knowing about. | First, L&G Desert Store on Jackson Street. It's been around forever, you’ve probably driven past it a thousand times. | | If you didn’t know, they sell nachos. | | They're 100 percent worth it. Perfect midday snack. |
| I couldn’t find a nacho stand, or sign offering them when I walked in, it's all behind the counter, so you have to know to ask. Do it. | | I got the Oh Hannah Banana |
| Then, the new Mz. Freeze in downtown Indio on Towne Street. Orion was all over it, and the Oh Hannah Banana was just incredible. | | Orion attempted to share his La Fresa. |
| It’s hand rolled, so there's a wait, but you're in downtown Indio with stuff to check out while you do. Intimate little spot, families and kids in there, a great way to keep cool. If you love a sweet treat as much as I do, go try it. |
